Stop the Broncos bond
There are 70 structurally deficient bridges in Denver. The 8th avenue viaduct is not one of them. So why does Mayor Johnston want to spend $89 million dollars to replace it?
“It is impossible to ignore the Broncos are a thing in Denver,” acknowledged Patrick Riley, bond program manager for the city’s Department of Finance. “So telling you that that there's no weight there, or that there's no consideration there, would be insulting to everybody at this table.”
Why does Denver want to spend $140M around Burnham Yard? The Broncos are part of it (Denverite 7/22/25)
This handout for the future Broncos stadium leaves very little money available for the sustainable, multimodal solutions our leaders claim to support.
Mayor Johnston recently told 7 News that he wants to prioritize more robust, safer bike lanes. Such infrastructure isn't cheap, so why has the Mayor refused to fund a single one of these corridors in the Vibrant Denver bond?
Investing in 1980's viaducts to subside a football stadium is not the path forward to a vibrant Denver.Tell Mayor Johnston to prioritize multimodal investments that make our streets safer and our neighborhoods more livable.
